When it comes to growing as a DJ, content creator, or entrepreneur, there will always be someone with more experience than you—and always someone with less. The key is knowing that while you can compete with anyone, it doesn’t mean you should.
Why waste energy on a competition that doesn’t serve you?
For example, I’ve been DJing for nine years, and by experience alone, I’m more skilled than someone who just started out. On the flip side, there are DJs who have been at it far longer than I have, and their skills surpass mine. Then there are people who started after me and, through their own journey, have surpassed me in some areas.
Here’s the real question: Why would I try to compete with someone who’s been doing anything for 20 years? Why would I try to compete with someone who’s been doing anything anything longer then I have?
It’s about understanding where you are in your journey and realizing that the energy spent trying to measure yourself against others can be better used for your own growth. Instead of competing with people at a different stage, focus on your unique path and how you can improve every day.
You can choose to compete where you don’t compare—anyone can—but the real growth comes from knowing when to focus inward. The energy you invest in bettering yourself will always be more rewarding than trying to measure up to someone else.
There will always be people who know more than you, and you’ll always know more than someone else. The smartest move is to focus on your lane, your growth, and your plan. When the time comes to compete, you’ll be ready because you channeled your energy into becoming the best version of yourself.
Stay focused, keep growing, and always choose your own path.
